Brad Zaller has been supporting Healing Waters for over 10 years. Providing wilderness trips has been a meaningful way for him to share his love for the outdoors and help others connect with nature, much like his parents did for him when he was younger. Brad is thrilled to be part of this remarkable organization.
Dr. Mary Breunig has spent more than three decades as an outdoor/experiential education professor at Canadian and US universities. Since 2019, she has been teaching at California State University - Sacramento on the traditional and ancestral homelands of the Miwok, Wintu, Maidu, Nisenan (southern Maidu), and Patwin Native peoples. Jana Clark has been involved with Healing Waters (HWWA) since 2024.
In the spring of 2024 Jana trained to be a guide with HWWA. From that time forward, it became Jana‘s ambition to engage anyone interested in volunteerism or awesome community to participate with HWWA.
Initially, she loved casually rafting the South Fork of the American River, but came to learn that the HWWA is a roadway to providing opportunity and exposure to a “once in a lifetime moment” that has the power to change lives in lasting and impactful ways.
Betsy Ponce betsy@hwaters.org
Betsy Ponce first became involved with Healing Waters as a client in 2002, when she attended a winter cabin weekend with her four children. That experience left a lasting impression and ultimately inspired her to return in 2017 to train as both a river guide and camp cook.
In 2020, she joined the organization’s board, deepening her commitment to its mission. Betsy believes that time in nature supports mental, physical, and emotional well-being, and she is passionate about helping others step outside their neighborhoods to experience the benefits of the natural world.
Dr. Kris Salisbury
Dr Kris Salisbury has spent over three decades as an outdoor educator and adventure professional before transitioning into a traveling Occupational Therapist, working across the U.S. and internationally. Throughout her career—as both a frontline guide and executive leader—Kris has focused on bridging the access gap in outdoor adventure.
She is currently researching barriers to play engagement among displaced populations and teaches Wilderness Medicine with NOLS as her schedule allows. Kris enjoys seeking out off-the-beaten-path adventures around the world, whether climbing, paddling, hiking, biking, or sharing meals along the way.
Her commitment to expanding access also includes supporting impactful organizations whenever possible and supporting the work of excellent teams. She is inspired by the work of Healing Waters and the strength of its mission.
Lisa Fung lisafung@hwaters.org
Lisa Fung has been a white water rafting guide since 1992. She believes that spending time outdoors, and integrating nature into everyday life, can greatly benefit both mental and physical well-being.
Lisa is currently the Chief Development Officer at Enterprise for Youth, a nonprofit organization serving 400 young people each year with transformative paid internships.
Through rafting, Lisa has seen how these experiences foster teamwork and collaboration while also giving individuals the opportunity to face and overcome their fears. She is passionate about the transformative impact of even a single weekend on the river, knowing it can build confidence and resilience in young people through meaningful challenges.
